DO WE REALLY BELIEVE?
posted by douglaslauxman at 7:20 || under General
Pastor Craig has upped the bar in his messages and is really challenging us to be the people we were meant to be. A re-occuring point that he has been driving home over and over again is "do you really believe?" If we do then why are we not wholeheartedly living the lives were are suppose to live?
In Luke chapter 19, is the story of the Rich Ruler. This man had the priviledge of talking to Jesus face to face and he had a question; "what must I do to inherit eternal life?" Jesus gave him the easy part of the answer first, saying to follow the 10 commandments. The Rich Ruler replied, "All these I have kept since I was a boy."
Jesus, knowing the man's heart, then got to the "heart" of the matter. Jesus told the rich ruler to sell everything he had and give to ... >> full

IS CHURCH FOR EVERBODY?
posted by douglaslauxman at 14:15 || under General
I have been to many churchs in my life; every size shape and color. Some carrying tradtions since the 1800's, some doing some new things. I have visited with many people about their church and even studied many of the denominational movements throughout history.
My question is, why do so many people not feel welcome in the vast array of churches that are in existence in this country?
I am not entirely sure why, but in several places I have been, there has been little effort to make outsiders feel welcome or wanted. I remember one man who was known to struggle with drugs that attended for a while. Then I heard one of the leaders of the church warning people to be clear of this man.
Luke 19:10 tells us that the "Son of Man came to seek and save what was lost."

ITS A NEW YEAR.....AGAIN
posted by douglaslauxman at 7:33 || under General
Do you ever wonder why everyone places so much importance on the "New Year" every year, and how "New Year" resolutions are so important that they become topics of national news? Why is it that every "New Year" most people just seem to have to start over again and again and again and again?
2 Corinthians 5:17, says that "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!"
I made one resolution the day I excepted Jesus into my heart; that each and every day I would strive to become more and more like Him. Why start over? Yea sure we stumble, fall down or just plain fail, but that is an important part of our learning process. Failures are quite possibly our greatest learning tools.
The inventor of the light bulb failed hundreds and hundreds of ... >> full

DREAM STEALERS 12/1/09
posted by douglaslauxman at 7:54 || under General
A teacher has assigned her class the task of writing a story which describes the home they want to live in some day.
One of the students was in a family that was in the horse racing buisness and so they moved from location to location throughout the course of a year to make a living, which also meant the young man moved from school to school quite frequently.
The young man wrote a lengthy story of his dream home, a horse ranch with a beautiful colonial style house, elaborate barns which matched the house in design yet were planned to meet every need for raising the best horses. An acreage large enough to raise horses and even a practise race track for training the horses to run. He put great effort and elaborate detail into the paper as this was his dream. The next day he turned ... >> full
